About Rita Winstone

Rita Winstone is the Programme Leader for Early Childhood Studies. She graduated with a degree in English and history and began her lecturing career at Darlington further education college where she specialised in teaching logistics and other subjects for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply of which she was a member.

This sparked an interest in teaching and in order to develop this she completed a PGCE with The Open University. Since gaining her PGCE she has taught a variety of subjects in both the private and the public sector and in each of the Key Stages – Foundation through to Key Stage 4.

While working as Assistant Head Teacher in the state sector she completed an MA at Teesside University.  Within this she focused her dissertation on the impact of gender issues on teaching and learning within the classroom.

Rita continues to study - gained a PGCE HLTE (Fellow of HEA) and has partly completed study on a Doctorate programme at Durham University.  She has also contributed to book publications.

Rita lectures on a number of modules on the Early Childhood Studies Degree.
