Andrew studied for his LLB (Hons) at Teesside University before going on to study the BVC at Northumbria University, qualifying as a Barrister in 2010. Further study has included an LLM at Teesside University in 2015 and the Legal Practice Course at Leeds Law School in 2016. Andrew has interests in Employment Law and Civil Law and is a Graduate member of CILEx. Andrew is also a practicing fee earner.

Before deciding to pursue a career in law, Andrew worked in a range of Youth Justice roles after leaving the Armed Forces. These include The Prison Service, The Youth Justice Board and Youth Offending Teams, where his career focussed on the most serious and prolific offenders. Prior to commencing at the University, Andrew lectured courses in Uniformed Public Services.

Andrew’s main focus within the University is the development, teaching and running of the award winning Teesside Law Clinic, a free legal advice clinic which assists members of the public access justice. The University’s Law Clinic enables Law students to engage in legal issues on a pro-bono basis on behalf of members of the public.

Andrew is also the CILEx Course Co-ordinator at the university and runs the CILEx Graduate Fast Track Diploma and the CILEx  level 6 Single Subject Certificates

Research interests

Andrew is a regular contributor and presenter of CPD for the legal profession, and has delivered papers at conferences on Youth Justice. In addition Andrew is developing an ‘Experiential Emotive Learning’ strategy for Clinical Legal Education and delivered a paper to the International Journal of Clinical Legal Education (IJCLE) at the Annual Conference in July 2012. He has also submitted papers for conferences around the world in the field of Clinical Legal Education.
