About George Stobbart

George Stobbart is a Senior Lecturer and involved in both Children and Young People and in Early Years Degree modules. George has much experience in working with children and young people, including 19 years of delivering and managing a range of youth work practices in Oxford, North Tyneside and County Durham.

George then moved on to become a Project Leader of a multi-disciplinary team working with young people in a regeneration area near Sunderland. Since then George spent 10 years as a Deputy Principal of a purpose built community primary school. This role included developing: day care and after school provision, work with families and supporting the development of a Children Centre on the school site.

George obtained a Certificate in Community and Youth Work and has also completed a M. A. in Management Studies from Northumbria University, specialising on youth service practice. George has also achieved an M. Ed. in Inclusive Education from the University of Sheffield whereby he focused his studies on ‘extended’ and 'community' schools.

Research interests

George’s research interests are concerned with the experiences of asylum seeker and refugee children in North East settings He is currently undertaking a part-time PhD in this subject area
