Currently working as a civil and structural designer in the Stockton office of international professional technical services firm Jacobs, Jasmin graduated with a HNC Civil Engineering in 2014.

Jasmin, 23, says studying at Teesside helped to prepare her for a career in engineering. Originally from Heckmondwike, in West Yorkshire, she said: 'I came to Teesside as I knew I had a far better chance of finding work in the engineering industry in this area.'

To discover more about how Teesside University can play a role in helping you on your chosen career path, there are two Open Days taking place from 9.00am to 3.00pm on Wednesday 8 June and Saturday 18 June.

Jasmin said: 'The course I did prepared me for my current role, as it gave me a good understanding of why the engineers make the decisions they do, which in turn assists me with my own designs.

'I particularly enjoyed the structural analysis unit on the course, as it helped with the work I do and helped me to understand the rationale behind engineering decisions and why things are designed in a certain way.'

She added: 'I enjoyed meeting the other students on the course who worked for different companies and in different parts of the industry. Learning from their experience was both fascinating and enjoyable.

'Many of the apprenticeships and graduates working for Jacobs locally had studied at Teesside University too, so for me it was the obvious choice. I also developed a good knowledge of how a project is planned and managed, which helped to make me more mindful of other disciplines when I am completing my own work.'
