Freebrough Academy Principal up for top award

The Principal of Freebrough Academy, sponsored by Teesside University, has been shortlisted for a top accolade in the North East School Awards 2012, launched by the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette and The Journal in Newcastle.

Linda Halbert, of Freebrough Academy in Brotton, has been nominated in the Headteacher of the Year category which will recognise ‘an outstanding school leader whose guidance and leadership has helped create a dynamic learning environment’.

Linda said: “I’m delighted with the nomination. Whether I win or not, this recognition reflects more on the efforts of the whole staff at Freebrough and the mission we are trying to achieve here. We want to create a vibrant learning community in which young people are inspired and motivated to achieve excellence. We certainly wouldn’t be able to achieve this without the help from our partners, such as Teesside University.”

Professor Graham Henderson CBE DL, Vice-Chancellor of Teesside University said: “We are very proud of Linda for receiving this prestigious nomination. The commitment and passion that she has shown in developing the Academy since it opened has been second to none. We are all confident that, under Linda's leadership, we can look forward to continued success at Freebrough and a long-standing partnership for many years to come.”

The Journal and Evening Gazette North East School Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 5 July 2012 at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.
