Every Penny Helps

Teesside University staff support hundreds of charities each year, raising thousands of pounds.

Every Penny Helps gives staff the opportunity to give back to their University.

Every Penny Helps is a partnership between Teesside University and Charitable Giving, a national charity specialising in payroll giving. It is a staff-led programme with a calendar of activities designed with and for members. Each year, members vote on the causes to benefit from their donations.

How does it work?

It couldn't be simpler.

  • every month, you donate the pennies from your pay slip into a central pot - it could be 1p or 99p, but it's likely to average out at about 50p per staff member per month, making an average donation of £6.00 annually
  • tick the gift aid box and each donation is worth an additional 25%
  • every penny you put into the scheme is matched by the University, making a total average contribution of £12.00 per person per year.

The University transfers donations (along with Gift Aid contributions) to our Charitable Giving Corporate Options account. The funds are held there until we instruct Charitable Giving that we are ready to start our development projects.

Whilst the University continues to invest in enhancing our core facilities, such as teaching and accommodation provision, we, like any other university, need to raise additional funds to achieve our ambitions.

Online form

I authorise the Payroll Office to enrol me in to the Every Penny Helps scheme. The pence figure from my net pay will be deducted and paid in to the scheme and allocated to the development fund. I understand that I can opt out of the scheme at any time by contacting the payroll office.

I request that this and all future donations be treated as a gift aid payment. I have paid or will pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax for the current tax year that is at least equal to the amount of tax that the University will reclaim in the tax year.
