Political Protest and the Prison Experience

During the Conflict in Northern Ireland, the criminal justice system played a central and visible role in containing, managing and repressing social disorder and hence became associated indelibly with issues of the state.

Although much has been written about political protest and prison experiences in Northern Ireland, too often women's experiences of political protest and imprisonment have been silenced and under explored.

Join Professor Azrini Wahidin as she explores why women are marginalised despite playing such a pivotal role in the Conflict, and discover how the prison experience was transformed into an arena for political resistance.
