This session aims to improve researcher’s understanding and skills in presenting their research in public, whether at conferences, seminars, or in other public communication.

The approach taken is that in order to be a better presenter it is necessary to be a better observer – something which is best done by comparing different styles of presentation. Other issues covered include presentation materials and adaptation techniques to presenting in different formats and situations.

Topics include:

•Presentation style, comparative approach, examples

•Implications of venue, formality of occasion, circumstances on presentation techniques

•Supporting materials and other aspects of presentation

•Opportunity for some participants to practise giving presentations

This session is aimed at research students.
