Chinese Ambassador links up with Teesside University

02 March 2012

The Chinese Ambassador to the UK has promised his support and backing to strengthen Teesside University’s links with his home country.

His Excellency Ambassador Liu Xiaoming pledged support from the Embassy and said: 'I am more than happy to help facilitate Teesside in building partnerships with Chinese universities.'

The Ambassador was in the North East speaking at the North East Economic Forum annual conference before visiting the University’s Middlesbrough campus. At the University he had the opportunity to meet with Chinese students and staff who make up a community of over 400.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Henderson, CBE, said: 'I am delighted that, in recent years, the University has successfully developed a significant, and growing, number of close links with China, which have not only resulted in a growing community of Chinese students within the University but also in the development of innovative, and valuable, research links with a number of Chinese universities in such fields as digital technology, electronics and engineering.

'I was absolutely delighted that His Excellency was able to have the opportunity to meet some of our Chinese staff and students and to learn more about our work, and I very much appreciate the support and encouragement that he offered to them and to the University as a whole.'
