About | Challenging Youth Racism Project

Our conference marks the publication of our upcoming report detailing the findings of our three years of work with the Challenging Youth Racism Project. We hope you can join us to share and discuss these findings.

The Challenging Youth Racism Project (a joint endeavour between Teesside University and Humankind) provides anti-racism interventions to young people aged 11-19 across North East England. The project remit is to increase acceptance of others, increase awareness on the impact of racism, and to encourage young people to challenge and report racism. We have delivered over 350 workshops to over 7,000 young people and have trained over 150 ambassadors since July 2016.

We are also excited to welcome other experts in the field to share their experiences of working on anti-racism programmes. Speakers will include Owen Jones, Head of Education at HOPE not Hate, and Kate Hollinshead, Head of Operations at EqualiTeach and Justine King, Education Co-ordinator, Show Racism the Red Card.

Our conference will conclude with a keynote talk from Sara Khan, Lead Commissioner for Countering Extremism (Home Office).
