Managing a business in the real world is about making decisions. This is a broad business and management degree which gives you a strong grounding in theory and practice, enabling you to make the right decisions.
You develop knowledge of marketing, human resources and business technology, as well as valuable communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. This highly flexible degree is directly relevant to the needs of industry and commerce, leaving you well placed to pursue a career in a wide variety of fields.
What you study
Year 1 is mainly tutor led and focuses on providing you with the necessary underpinning in terms of broad business knowledge and skills. It introduces key business and management concepts.
Year 2 takes a more student-led approach with an emphasis on exploring your own interests and deepening your insights as well as having more responsibility for your own learning. During this Year you develop a broader international perspective to the study of business. As well as studying four core business modules, including a module on enhancing employability, you are able to choose two other modules from a range of business areas. However, part-time students have prescribed options.
The final year explores more advanced topics within business and management and you develop your awareness of change within organisations. Finally, you have the opportunity to put your knowledge into action by undertaking a self-managed independent project.
How you learn
Modules are taught via lectures, seminars, practical workshops and group work. Teaching staff adopt a range of web-based technologies to deliver module content, assess, provide feedback and communicate with students. Part-time study is in an evening, blocked over a ten-week period.
How you are assessed
The programme is assessed via a variety of methods including assignments, examinations, group work, presentations and live practical projects.
Work placement/study abroad year
Between Year 2 and your final year, you have the opportunity to spend a year in industry on placement, or study abroad at one of our partner institutions. Alternatively you could proceed on to the final year.
Professional accreditation
Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates are guaranteed the offer of Associate Member status, or with three years' managerial experience, full Member status, from the Chartered Management Institute.
Career opportunities
You will be able to follow careers in fields from marketing to general management across all sectors of business and industry.
Entry requirements
A typical offer is 240 tariff points from at least two A levels (or equivalent), together with maths and English at GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent).
We welcome applications from mature students without conventional entry requirements. We will take into account any alternative qualifications or other experience you may have.
If you have a higher national diploma or a foundation degree in a business subject, you can enter the final year and convert your qualification into an honours degree.
