Do you have a passion for games or animation but lack the art experience you need to apply to one of our courses? Or perhaps your UCAS points have been a little disappointing?

If this is the case then the Art Foundation Year is designed for you. This course prepares you for the first year of one of our creative games or animation degrees.

Our dedicated team helps you develop your drawing and creative skills – vital to successfully completing our games or animation courses. We focus on the core skills of drawing, helping you to create effective images using both traditional tools and graphics software such as Photoshop.

When you successfully complete the Art Foundation Year, you automatically progress to the first year of your chosen course.

How you learn

For each module you are studying you are expected to attend studio-based workshops. Early modules focus on developing skills and the final module allows you to use the skills learned in a major final project.

All modules place a strong emphasis on feedback and advice from lecturers. You have your own studio space, so you can carry out your work under the direct supervision of specialist University staff.

How you are assessed

Assessment for all modules is in the form of a practical project.

This specialist course is designed to prepare you for entry to the first year of a creative games or animation degree.

Entry requirements

A typical offer is 200 tariff points. The entry criteria are based on your ability to succeed and can be demonstrated in a variety of ways including:

  • a range of Level 3 qualifications (NVQ 3, BTEC Award, A level)
  • appropriate training through work.
