Quality teaching
Our commitment to promoting vocational skills ensures that you will be well prepared for work in both the NHS and social services. An outstanding feature of our courses is the successful collaboration with NHS/primary care trusts and social services, giving you hands-on, practical experience and skills which are in great demand from potential employers. These close links contributed to the high-quality ratings gained in the Quality Assurance Agency's national reviews for nursing and midwifery, allied health professions and social work.
First-class facilities
Health & Social Care students benefit from state-of-the-art resources in a purpose-built, award-winning facility. The Centuria Building provides an excellent study environment with large lecture theatres and extensive seminar rooms, spacious teaching accommodation and open-access information technology laboratories.
Individual subjects have dedicated laboratories with up-to-date specialist equipment. These laboratories simulate particular practice environments including community and home settings and have computerised mannequins which simulate patients. In addition there are interactive rooms with linked video feedback equipment where you practise interviewing and assessing clients. Teaching and research are supported by virtual learning environments. You develop practical skills in these purpose-built clinical skills laboratories as well as in practice placements.
Research and enterprise
The School's expertise - so valuable to the career prospects of our students - is underpinned by our extensive research activities. The Health & Social Care Institute is renowned for research carried out by the Centre for Rehabilitation Science and for research into public health issues, physical activity, food and obesity. We also undertake academic consultancy and other external activities which support the modernisation of health and social care.
