If you are dynamic, creative and passionate about television and film, this is the course for you. Taught by staff with established professional track records, it prepares you to work in this challenging, constantly changing industry.
You produce films using state-of-the-art, tapeless HD facilities, supported by a team of dedicated technical staff.
You explore factual and drama production, including pitching, project development and screenwriting. You experiment with content creation for new and emerging platforms such as mobile and online. You also develop entrepreneurial skills and a critical understanding of the contemporary media industry.
What you study
Year 1 establishes your professional production techniques alongside analysis of programme making. While you are developing your production work, you will be introduced to form and technique through screenings and discussion.
In Year 2 you produce work to a variety of briefs designed to develop further your creative and technical ability in preparation for your final year. You also explore programme commissioning processes, self employment and career choices while developing your conceptual and critical understanding. In addition, you undertake preparation for your research project in Year 3.
In your final year you work independently, supported by your tutors. Your production work includes a portfolio which you can take to potential employers. You undertake a range of substantial, self-directed production projects, which may include live briefs that are set by industry, as well as a research project which requires you to undertake primary research with industry representatives.
