About
NHC

The National Horizons Centre (NHC) is Teesside University's £22.3m centre of excellence for the global biosciences and healthcare sector, located in Darlington.

The NHC was founded in conversation with, and for the bioindustry, to discover diseases earlier, develop novel treatments, and deliver life changing medicines to those in need, quicker, safer and more affordably.

Through our delivery model of research, partnerships and training, we bring together industry, academia, talent and world-class facilities to create real-world impact.

With funding from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and the European Regional Development Fund, we are building on the region's rich heritage of research and development to accelerate innovation across the UK and internationally, boosting both the regional and national economy.

It's great to see the National Horizons Centre establishing itself as a key organisation in the life science sector. There is real potential for the industrialisation of research and for hands on training opportunities to grow the UK's biopharma workforce of the future.

Dr Kath Mackay, Managing Director, Bruntwood SciTech Alderley Park

It is great to see the ambitious goals the NHC has planned over the coming years and how the centre will help to bridge the bioscience skills gap in the UK and be a catalyst for industry-focussed bioscience innovation."

Mark Bustard, CEO, IBioIC

Since opening in 2019, the NHC has already made a huge impact helping to grow the life sciences ecosystem here in the Tees Valley and developing the skills and talent needed for the jobs of the future.
