How long have you been a student ambassador?

One year.

Why did you want to become a student ambassador?

I always wanted to get more out of my University experience other than just an engineering degree. In middle school and high school I took on representative roles and I felt that becoming a student ambassador at University would be the next natural step. I wanted a challenging and exciting experience which would give me many opportunities to engage with students and parents from various backgrounds.

What sort of work have you been involved with?

I have had the opportunity to facilitate local and national events, including open days, careers fairs and the Year 12 residential summer school. I’ve also worked on progression activities with school pupils.

What’s the best part of your role as an ambassador?

The flexibility it provides for me as student. The job enables me to balance my study along with social life. Also, no two days are ever the same. This is mentally stimulating, as you are faced with different task for each event, with the opportunity to network with diverse people from various locations across the country. Doing this has helped me to improve my communication and confidence when speaking to new people.

The role has also allowed me to learn much more about my University. Teamwork is a vital aspect of the job, and over time, my work as a student ambassador has developed my ability to work effectively with my colleagues.

Being an ambassador is a great job and these are just a few of the highlights.

What’s your favourite thing about Teesside?

The proximity and easy access to various student essentials such as fast food places, restaurants, shopping malls, and various social activities.

What would you say to anyone thinking about applying to the ambassador programme?

It’s definitely worth it! Whether you’re a home or international student, a role as a student ambassador unquestionably provides you with countless opportunities to meet new people, which is an effective way to make new friends as a student.

The pay is also excellent and serves as extra financial support, especially if you’re living away from home.
