Have you ever wondered what your digital business model is? Amazon is the arguably king of 21st-century commerce, having grown from an online bookseller to one of the most valuable companies in the world and the market leader in almost everything from cloud computing to tech-assisted shopping. Using Amazon as an example, we look at the business model they followed that led to their success today.

We provide you with the skills to look at your own digital business model and show you the techniques to implement a successful model.

You need access to a PC or laptop, internet, audio headset and Panapto or Camtasia video software.Due to COVID 19 we are going to deliver this course online using Webinar, however support will be available both online and via blackboard.Guidance notes for Applicants

What you study

• Introduce you to the key concepts and theories of digital transformation.
• Develop your understanding of digital disruptions across different sectors and business changes on the way.
• Develop your digital business analysis skills.

How you learn

You develop your knowledge and skills through face-to-face video teaching or webinars, and using tutor-developed online resources.

A series of interactive workshops demonstrate theoretical business and technological concepts and applications. The rest of the workshop allows you to develop your knowledge of the practical business application of digital business through undertaking online research to access electronically-appropriate evidence.

Formative feedback is embedded into the delivery of the module through individual and group discussions in class, and use of the virtual learning environment.

The Teesside University Learning Hub supports the skills needed for writing, referencing and presentations.

This course is delivered online by webinar and using blackboard which is ideal for forums or contacts to others on this programme.

How you are assessed

You are assessed by a presentation on a pass/fail basis.

The presentation identifies the digital threats and opportunities to the industry sector you are working in, evaluates current business model/models you are operating in, examines a range of digital business models and reports on best practices applicable to your sector. You are expected to access a range of academic resources to develop your knowledge of the practical application of digital technologies to business.

You must work for any size of company or sector in Durham or Tees Valley (Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar or Stockton)

Fee for applicants:

  • Length: Credits: 20, Level 4, Fully funded support * eligibility applies
  • Starts Tuesday 13 October as a taught lesson with independent study taking place on 20, 27 October and 3 November followed by final taught lesson on 10 November. A further day is required for assessments and this is 17 November 2020
  • Enrolment date: Starts Tuesday 13 October. Applications close 8 October 2020, 5.00pm.
