Computer Sciences: Programming*


Course overview

This course is for those who have little or no experience of any programming. You are introduced to the core structures needed for programming and your programming skills are developed using tools that are easily available, easy to use, and familiar to anyone who has used a computer.

Course details

What you study

Indicative content
Introduce the language and jargon used by programmers
Sequence & selection
Conditional and looping constructs
Using arithmetic and relational operators
Functions: reasons for, parameters, arguments and return values
Debugging tips and tools
Introduce common frameworks/third party libraries

How you are assessed

100% in course assessment on a pass/fail basis

Students will be required to submit a portfolio of development work demonstrating a range of programming skills. The work will be completed throughout the module during IT Laboratory sessions with additional work being completed outside of class item
