An Introduction to Fashion Design

This module is designed to give the student an understanding of the skills and practices involved in the process of womenswear fashion design. Students will explore trend, research, design development, visualisation and pattern cutting.

 

Credits: 10, Level: 4, Fees: £50.00

 

Course overview

During the module students will develop a portfolio of work responding to weekly set tasks. This module is delivered through practical demonstrations and assignments.

There is one component of assessment ICA 100%: Portfolio The students will submit a portfolio of project work to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes.

What you study

This module aims to explore the fashion design process and introduce the student to the design and visualisation of a fashion garment through creative research challenges and tasks
Students will learn about:

- Trends
- Fashion design
- Research
- Mood boards
- Visual presentation of ideas
- Sketching
- Fabric
- Pattern drafting
- Pattern cutting
- Short creative research challenges and tasks
- Video demonstrations
- Reflective practice
- Online interactive seminars and group discussion

How you are assessed

ICA 100%: Portfolio At the end of the module, the students will submit a portfolio of project work to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes.
