An Introduction to Product Design and Creative Innovation

 

Course overview

You explore design thinking and the design process. You follow the process from interpreting the brief to realising innovative outcomes relating to new products and consumer needs. You learn how design can be used to deliver solutions to real-world problems.

No previous knowledge is assumed and you explore a range of ideas, processes and methods while completing a negotiated project.

You learn through a combination of live demonstrations, pre-recorded lectures, set tasks, and individual tutor support sessions.

Winter university

This course is delivered online. Please check the entry requirements tab before making your application to ensure you meet the entry criteria and have all the minimum equipment necessary to take part.

You can study up to 30 credits at Winter University and you can select up to three modules on the same application form. If you would like to add a module later, or change one of your choices, then please email winter.university@tees.ac.uk.

Due to the content and delivery of this course, you should be 16 at the time of enrolment. If you are under 18 at the time of enrolment you must provide a completed parental consent form. - project presentations and reflective summary

How you are assessed

You are assessed through a portfolio of product design creative work (100%).

You keep a journal of your sketch work from each session as you complete the allocated project briefs. In the final session you will present the project outcomes to your tutor and fellow students.

Your journal and project is captured on PowerPoint documents and is submitted for final marking at the end of the final session.

 
 

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

You are required to have access to basic art and design materials such as paper, sketchbooks, pencils, pens, rulers, basic watercolour/gouache paints.

As this is an online course you need access to a computer and be comfortable learning through an online platform. A strong and stable internet connection is required, and a webcam and microphone to participate in any interactive elements of the course.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
