Course overview

The course teaches you how to perform and report on third trimester fetal growth ultrasound examinations, safely and effectively to national guidelines, placing the woman at the centre of care. It cover all aspects relating to the third trimester ultrasound scan including technique, reporting, science, management, ethical and professional issues, and evidenced-based practice.

To be eligible for the course you must have a placement within a scanning department so that you can gain experience in performing third trimester ultrasound examinations throughout the duration of the programme. You are expected to complete 100 hours of ultrasound practice.

How you are assessed

You are summatively assessed in two parts:
1. a 3,000-word written case study (100% weighting)
2. a final triggered assessment.

You need to have a relevant first degree and currently work for an NHS trust in the North East (including Carlisle).
