Core modules
Gain knowledge in a range of research strategies, design and methodologies, developing an understanding of the processes involved in conducting effective research while pursuing your own research interests. You gain an appreciation of how theoretical principles play a part in the research process and the importance of presenting clear and credible argumentation and evidence to support both the research design and the study’s findings. Good research is also dependent on strong interpersonal and project management skills, and the ability to assess current skill sets and create development plans to meet project needs and demands. These elements are illustrated throughout the course.
The different issues and challenges that face economies as a result of the globalisation process are explored, including the understanding of the nature of culture and its implications for management, communication and conflict. You examine the tools needed to analyse some of the principal issues facing business in the global economy, such as international trade, economic development and growth, shifts in world economic activity and the effects on the environment due to different policy and ethical challenges facing developing nations.
You integrate learning and development and synthesise knowledge and understanding of theory and practice through its application to organisational issues, which are demonstrably concerned with development within the organisation(s). You work towards this by undertaking a major project related to a business issue of significance within the organisation(s), integrating the knowledge acquired during study and combining it effectively with work activities. Following submission of your dissertation you are formally and in-person required to defend the proposed solutions.
You gain a critical understanding of the principles of leadership in a global context and environment to appreciate the linkages between leadership and change. You also critically understand these essential concepts and how they apply across disciplines and fields. The multidisciplinary nature of the module provides interesting crossover between the world of business, management, and other related fields. Different leadership models and styles within the global and cultural contexts in different types of organisations are taken into consideration, by exploring talent development, resilience and decision-making.
Strategic Management for the Global Business Environment
You develop a critical understanding of the principles of strategic management in a global context and environment, specifically an awareness of the principles of strategic formulation, analysis, design, and implementation in a global context. As the global business environment becomes ever more complex and volatile, there is a need for organisations of all shapes and sizes to engage more proactively by innovating and creating a sustainable competitive advantage to foster the adaptation process and better manage change.
This is an opportunity for you to develop both your work-based practice and to apply and reflect on your workplace performance and development. This is enabled through the collection of evidence and material charting workplace performance and development. A portfolio of work is created on which a self-reflection is drawn on the changes and developments made throughout the period of study and following inputs from the different workshops.
Modules offered may vary.
