The School of Design, Culture & the Arts is a diverse and enterprising group, spanning practice-led subjects like art and design, dance, acting and TV production as well as English studies, history and media. We are committed to providing you with the very best educational experience in a supportive environment. We incorporate field trips, live projects and competitions into the curriculum, where possible, to extend your knowledge and understanding of your subject. The School has an excellent reputation in a number of areas. It is very proud to have high scores in student satisfaction with 100% satisfaction in English studies and in journalism and extremely high scores elsewhere.

North East Film Archive

About the North East Film Archive

The North East Film Archive is a registered charity which finds, preserves and provides public access to moving image made in or about the North East region - from Middlesbrough in the south to the Scottish borders to the north.

The film archive's growing collection contain over 10 million feet of film made by the early film pioneers of the early 20th century, to recent footage of changing landscapes and life in the region including documentaries, newsreels, industrial, promotional and educational films, home movies and regional TV collections.

The North East Film Archive is based on the ground floor of Constantine and can be accessed through Middlesbrough Tower.

Student resource

Our purpose-built premises include temperature and humidity controlled film vaults to safeguard the films and specialist viewing and editing facilities to help the North East Film Archive make its collections accessible for everyone to see and enjoy.

Teesside University students have a great opportunity to access archive footage for research and media productions. You can view more than 100 titles on the North East Film Archive website free of charge, search over 1,000 catalogue entries in the catalogue or call in and talk to the team about the collections.
