Teesside University and MIMA have worked with a leading theatre company to produce an inspiring new short film to motivate and galvanise young women in the region.

As part of the University’s 2020 International Women’s Day programme, Open Clasp Theatre Company ran a series of theatre-based workshops for 120 young people.

This year, because of the pandemic, the University was unable to work with Open Clasp in person.

Instead, the University and MIMA commissioned and supported them to create a piece of spoken word writing in response to the 2021 International Women’s Day theme #choosetochallenge.

Open Clasp then developed the piece into a five-minute film – a rallying cry to the confidence and creativity of young women as we emerge from lockdown into a new world.

The University, MIMA and Open Clasp will now work to develop creative responses to the film over the coming months, looking towards International Women’s Day in March 2022.
