About Gillian Taylor

Gillian Taylor is currently a Senior Lecturer in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry in the School of Science & Engineering, Teesside University.

Before coming to Teesside Gillian studied at Newcastle University and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig, Germany.  Gillian has published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters on a range of subjects from archaeological chemistry, analytical chemistry and stable isotope analysis methods. Gillian is Chair of the School of Science and Engineering Research Ethics Committee. She also holds a visiting fellowship at York University.


Research interests and activities

Gillian's main research areas focus is the development of analytical techniques towards forensic and archaeological applications. 

Archaeology - main research interests include: decomposition in anaerobic environments, pathophysiology of bone, stable isotope analysis of bone collagen and organic/inorganic analysis of bone. Gillian has developed methods in investigation amino acids in bone, especially towards stable isotope methodology.

Illicit drug analysis - main research interests currently include the development of methods for the detection of novel psychoactive compounds, detection of drugs in wastewater and novel techniques for drug detection.
