The course content was incredible and varied, which suited me as I wasn't 100% certain where I wanted to take my career.
The course content was incredible and varied, which suited me as I wasn't 100% certain where I wanted to take my career. I came to an open day and the campus looked great and welcoming, I felt at home very quickly.
Varied and interesting. The forensic science modules particularly, especially when looking at footwear and fingerprints evidence. Practical exercises, including investigating a mock crime scene really helped me engage with the topics. I also really enjoyed the law modules, where we got to channel our inner Harvey Specter in a moot against other students.
The breadth of understanding you gain about the criminal justice system, from the causes of crime, factors that underpin crime and early prevention and deterrence, police involvement and how policing has evolved, methods of evidence collection, the role of the judiciary and the role of prisons, recidivism and effective rehabilitation.
Fingerprint Investigation was easily my favourite module, investigating the most minute details to determine the accuracy and success of a prosecution was exhilarating. I obviously had an eye for detail too as I was highly efficient in practical and written exercises.
I lived within a ten-minute walk of the campus and the friends I lived with will be my best friends for life.
I spent a lot of time around the Students’ Union and town centre. Middlesbrough has so much to offer and places to go.
The sports at Teesside were fantastic too. I joined the football team and even tried futsal.
I joined the Home Office as a border force officer at Heathrow Airport, where I got to use some of the skills and learning from Teesside. I quickly rose through the ranks and into my current role as senior strategy advisor.
On a personal level, when I moved to London I met my wife and we had our son, but have returned to the North East, which has always felt like home.
