Teesside University Awarded Police Degree Apprenticeship Contract
Teesside University will be the home for new police recruits as they work to gain the newly-launched Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.
The University won the prestigious contract to deliver the three year programme due to their strong understanding of the culture in Cleveland and their alignment to the Force’s values and objectives.
Recruitment for the first class of trainee officers will launch at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday 5th February) in what is National Apprenticeship Week.
Apprentice police officers will begin their training in September 2020 and will study for a degree in Professional Policing Practice within three years of joining, whilst earning a £24,000 salary working as a police officer. The degree is free to recruits and funded through national apprenticeship funding.
Senior police officers hope that the new degree programme will attract a diverse array of people, and want to appeal to those from underrepresented groups to apply.
Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger, who awarded the contract to Teesside University said: 'We’re delighted to have Teesside University on board as the educational provider. Teesside University has an outstanding track record for its higher and degree apprenticeship and was one of the first higher education institutions in the country to have its provision subject to a full inspection by Ofsted. The education watchdog examined the University’s Higher Apprenticeship provision across five categories, rating every area as outstanding, from leadership and management, to learner outcomes.
