Mandatory consent training for TU Online students
Teesside University require all new TU Online students to complete the mandatory training course, Consent Matters.
Consent Matters uses a wide range of interactive activities to provide up-to-date education on consent, communication skills and relationships and looking out for others. Whilst the training is mandatory, it is also what prospective employers are increasingly looking for in potential employees, along with knowledge on equality and diversity and health & safety.
With this course and the continued support through the Yes to Respect campaign, we're looking for students to promote positive cultural change within our university community.
To access the training modules, you will need your Teesside University email address and password.
Access Brightspace
- Select 'Sign In' and enter your university email address and password. Once you have signed in, you will be taken to your home space on the platform.
- Select your Course Induction Space, which will be the title of your course from the tiles on the home page. In this example, the student would be a student on the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies.
- When you have entered your Course Induction Space, please locate the tile named Consent Mandatory Training. This should be visible on screen as you enter.
- You then have two options:
- Consent Matters: Select this to start the online training. You must read the section Consent Matters Information'. This provides important information and instructions for completion of the training. Once you have completed all three modules you must complete the acknowledgement which appears after completing the third and final module. This is used to log your completion.

- Opting out of the training: We understand that, due to the content of the modules, some students may not wish to take the course for cultural reasons or due to their personal experiences. If this is the case, you can opt out of the training by selecting this section and completing the form that opens.
