BA (Hons) Computer Games Art

Ellen works as a UI/UX artist for Playstation.

When I go to new studios I always know people through the connections I made at Animex - it's definitely made me feel at home in the industry.

Best thing about your course?

It has to be collaborating with like-minded students – we worked in the computer labs all day and we created a community where everyone could learn from each other. This really prepared me for working in a studio where programmers and artists do this day in day out.

I also enjoyed my final year where I got to choose different coursework topics – I dedicated mine around user interface.

Tell us about your work experience

I worked in London as an art intern for Soho Productions, a Microsoft Studio. It gave me a proper insight into the industry and the chance to explore a range of job roles.

Did you stay in University accommodation?

Yes I lived in King Edward's Square. I have lots of nice memories from my first year, even if it was a 13-person shared house which got a little chaotic at times!

Did you have a good social life?

Most of my time was spent in the computer labs but I did socialise in the Students’ Union for breakfast, lunch breaks and dinner. I also hung out in The Games Lounge and we went on group trips to Saltburn at the weekend.

What have you done since graduating?

I’ve worked in the games industry since graduating and I now work for Playstation as a UI/UX artist.

Best thing about Teesside?

I was able to make lots of connections thanks to the Animex festival. When I go to new studios I always know people through these connections and it's definitely made me feel at home in the industry.
