Sam works as a junior edit assistant at Clear Cut Pictures.
I would recommend Teesside University and my course. It helped to get me where I am today.
My role involves backing up and ingesting media for offline projects – creating exports and DVDs for clients, and uploading and creating master files. I give editing support, create offline and online finishing for audio, and I liaise with clients. I also set up editing suites for new starters using Avid, Premiere and Final Cut Pro.
I started work as a runner at Clear Cut Pictures, progressing to head runner and now work as junior edit assistant.
My course gave me the technical knowledge I needed to use ProTools, Premiere and Final Cut Pro. The work placements gave me experience – they allowed me to get my foot in the door and understand where and what I wanted to get into after university.
I chose Teesside Uni because I was impressed by the equipment and facilities on offer. The open day helped me make that decision.
I really enjoyed the film and TV production degree course – it covers a lot of different subjects. The lectures were always there to support and helped me understand what section of TV I wanted to get into. I had a number of work experience opportunities which let me get hands on with different roles and develop my CV. I loved the social life – cheap drinks and everything is very close to the University.
