BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice Studies

I would highly recommend Teesside for anyone who wants to gain a professional career in healthcare. The facilities are amazing, they have great connections with the NHS around the North East and staff are so supportive.

Why Teesside?

Being a mature student with a family, I wanted somewhere close to home and Teesside University was only a short commute. I was also impressed by the facilities available in the School of Health & Life Sciences.

The support from the lecturers and the ratio of time in university and practice.

What did you think about the campus and services?

The campus, teaching and facilities were fantastic and there was always support available during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Did you go on placement?

I attended placement during the three years of my course in the same hospital, where I was given ample support and training.

What have you done since graduating?

In the final months of my course, I was offered a job as an operation department scrub practitioner in the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

I support the surgeon carrying out the operation and. My role is to ensure the availability and sterility of all equipment and that it is always accounted for.
