Tom completed a work placement as part of his course.
'My placement was very enjoyable and helped me develop professional skills in the workplace.'
I chose to study at Teesside because it’s close to home and had the engineering course I wanted to study. Teesside University was highly recommended by my sixth form teachers, and it was a popular choice amongst my peers.
I opted for a work placement as part of my course which was very enjoyable and helped me develop professional skills in the workplace. My placement year enabled me to contextualise what I learnt on the course, and helped me reconsider how I perceive challenges and opportunities.
Since graduating I have been awarded the Frederic Barnes Waldron best student award and have made it into the six finalists for the 2017 Autocar-Courland Next Generation awards, which I’m very proud of.
The best part was making new friends through the Powerlifting Club at the Students’ Union – I’m still in touch with many of them today. As a result I have also re-joined the University gym as an associate member.
There are many job opportunities available nationwide but I am looking for a career in automotive industry, while working towards IMechE Chartership status.
I’d recommend my university and particularly my course to others. Staff are happy to help, and the course is accredited by the IMechE which can bring many benefits to your future career.
