Why Teesside?

I chose Teesside as it has the most productive environment out of all universities I visited. This was important for me as I engage in my learning more and study more effectively. I like the approach this university takes to my course, all staff are extremely friendly and answer any questions I have in great depth; they are confident and are very knowledgeable in their area.

Why did you choose your course?

I chose accounting and finance as I recently found an interest in the subject and I want to gain a lot from my studies. This course is perfect for me to enhance my ability and get closer to achieving my future goals. The facilities at Teesside are second to none, they have their own business school which is a new building, it looks amazing and there are lots of helpful study areas inside.

What do you enjoy about your course?

My course is mentally stimulating, it gets you thinking about the bigger picture on how the economy and businesses work, and many different elements which can have a large effect. I really enjoy economics, we look into how the current pandemic is affecting everyday life, such as the effects on the economy and whether businesses have undergone substantial growth or have struggled to get through this period. I genuinely enjoy and feel motivated to be learning more about business and economics, so I can get the maximum potential from my studies.

How is the campus?

The campus set up is good, the buildings are close together and it’s not a case of travelling a great distance to get to another place, so it’s very convenient. The services offered are great, either online or on campus there are plenty of extra activities that are available for me to participate in, and they are available in advance so you can get a planned schedule set up.

What have you learnt so far?

From my first few weeks at Teesside, I have an understanding of how organisations operate. Before this, I had very little understanding about business. I am starting to adopt a new way of thinking, taking a more analytical and critical approach, which is required when working in the business sector, along with problem solving and decision making which I’m sure I will advance in during my studies.

What do you hope to achieve in the future?

My future ambitions are to become a chartered accountant and secure a job in a different city and hopefully move abroad as I get more experience in the industry. I want to grow my potential, I believe that Teesside is a great starting point to get me closer to my career goals.

Would you recommend Teesside?

I would definitely recommend Teesside, and I would also recommend taking a business course. Even studying a course with a portion of business content within is great, because anyone’s career could change and a lot more people want to work for themselves. A business course can put a lot of people in a better position in their career as they have a better understanding of how businesses work.

How did you feel after being awarded the Richard Hill Scholarship?

Receiving the news of being awarded the Richard Hill Scholarship gave me a great sense of accomplishment, allowing me to make a positive step forward for myself. It is a privilege to be chosen out of such a high number of applicants and it has motivated me to focus on my studies with renewed confidence while enjoying my University life.
