Why Teesside?

Teesside is my local university and after some research, I found that the course I was interested in was offered here. This made things a lot easier for travelling.

Why dental nursing?

I was involved in a road traffic accident that left me needing oral health treatment. The staff at my dentist were great, and I was amazed at how they could do such intricate procedures so effortlessly. From this point, it was my dream to work in the dental field.

Best thing about your course?

Everything, no two days are the same. I love the feeling of helping others and being able to converse with so many different people about their life stories and their oral health. I feel proud that I can help patients resolve any issues they may be facing. Being able to make someone smile again is a blessing and there is nothing more contagious than a good smile.

What do you think about the campus and the services?

It’s amazing. Everything you need is close by, so moving from one class to another is easy. The food in STREAT in the Student Life building is divine and a must after a long day on campus. The Library is one place I find myself most comfortable, the staff are amazing and always willing to help and I found it crucial in helping with my assessments.

Have you been on placement?

Yes, I had a great placement at Stokesley Dental Practice where I worked with some amazing staff and their patients. Getting to learn how the NHS dental field works was an enlightening experience. I also did a placement at Cleveland Cosmetic & Dental Implant Clinic where I experienced another aspect of dentistry. Being able to nurse a patient while they were undergoing dental implants was just a dream come true and took me back to when I first fell in love with dentistry.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My ambition is to continue my studies and complete the dental hygiene degree at Teesside University. I’ve gained so many skills that will help me towards my chosen career, such as developing my self-confidence and social skills. I would love to finish my career in dentistry knowing that I have helped others improve their oral health.

Would you recommend Teesside University and your course?

Yes, I’ve had the best experience here. It’s a super chilled and relaxed environment. The tutors are just amazing and every year things just seem to get better.

What advice would you offer to students thinking of coming to study here?

Use the Library as much as possible, I found I could get so much work done there, it was a life saver.
