Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship recognises outstanding students

Teesside University has awarded Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships to 15 students from countries across the globe.

The prestigious scholarship recognises applications from outstanding international students who can demonstrate their skills and commitment to becoming future global leaders.

The successful students have received a one-off payment of £5,000 as a fee waiver in their first year of study. They joined Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Paul Croney and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Dr David Bell at a lunch to celebrate their awards.

Dr Bell said: ‘We were delighted to welcome the recipients of the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship to our University. They have all demonstrated a real commitment to becoming future global leaders and shown they are passionate ambassadors for Teesside. We wish them every success in their studies and with their future careers.’

Among those who were awarded the scholarship was Eduafoa Orleans-Lindsay who is studying MSc International Management (Applied). After growing up in Ghana, she travelled to China to complete her undergraduate degree but had her heart set on continuing her studies at Teesside.

She said: ‘I was at work when I received the email letting me know I had been successful – I was actually so happy I screamed. I was sure I wanted to come to Teesside University anyway, but the scholarship really helped to cut down the costs of studying.’

Bakiyavathy Parthasarathy, from India, is studying MSc Data Science and says that the offer of the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship helped her to make her decision. She said: ‘I am at Teesside University because of this scholarship – it really helped me to confirm my decision to study here. It has been a great help to me.’

Yogesh Saste, also from India, says that receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship is a huge privilege and it will be a great help to him as he studies MSc International Management (Applied).

He said: ‘The scholarship will not only support me economically, but it’s also boosted my confidence to the next level. Teesside University encourages its students in a variety of ways and I believe the UK is the best place to study management.’
