Japanese academics to visit Social Futures Institute

Academics from the Graduate School of Tohoku University of Community Service and Science, Yamagata, Japan visited the Third Sector Development Unit from 3–7 September 2007.

The delegation was led by Professor Tomoaki Shibukawa who was accompanied by Tomohito Nakajima, Tokihiko Takatani and Takahiro Aoki. They explored how the Institute is working with the third sector in the North East and Cumbria, with a specific focus on social enterprises developing in the area. Their visit involved receptions at the University and in Darlington, together with study visits to social enterprises in Tees Valley and discussions with local and regional government officers who are concerned to develop the third sector in the region.
