ADVANCE Women to Employability

01 May 2007

Professor Eileen Green from the Centre for Social and Policy Research (CSPR) in the School of Social Sciences & Law has been awarded £130,708.00 from the European Social Fund to carry out action research in the North East entitled ‘ADVANCE Women to Employability’.

This action research project, in its initial stages, is aimed at helping 50 socially excluded women, belonging to six diverse groups, along the route to employability. The action aspect of the project will involve the development and delivery of a personal development programme that will result in a personal development toolkit. The toolkit will be made available to other groups on completion of the project. The personal development programme will be delivered over a nine month period and will cover topics such as self esteem, self awareness, and confidence and aspiration raising.

The research aspect of the programme will gather evidence on the perceived barriers to employment, and will measure the effects of the personal development programme on the women’s perception of their employability. The project, which started in September 2006, will be completed in December 2007.

Project reports are available from CSPR, email b.cox@tees.ac.uk.
