Professor elected to represent social scientists

07 July 2008

Eileen Green, Professor of Sociology and Director of CSPR (Centre for Social and Policy Research) in the University’s School of Social Sciences & Law, has been elected to the British Sociological Association (BSA) Council as a Trustee.

The BSA is the professional body representing sociologists in Britain and the Council of Trustees constitutes the most senior layer of the BSA, charged with responsibility for governance of the association. The Council is also closely involved in directing and shaping higher education research and professional training agendas at a national level.

Council roles for the 17 elected trustees include liaising with key groups in higher education such as research councils and Academy of Social Sciences, leading the BSA's portfolio of research and training events for both academics and postgraduates and overseeing the BSA journals.

Professor Green, who is also an elected Academicion for the Academy of Social Sciences, will take a Trustee role for publications. She said, ‘I have been an active BSA member for over 30 years and it is a really satisfying achievement to be elected on to Council at this point in my career.

‘I am proud to be able to represent Teesside on the Council. It’s an excellent result for our external profile and a mark of personal recognition for myself.’
