The article was based on a number of sources including interviews with cigarette smugglers in Greece and the UK. He said, ‘The research which led to the particular article was a matter of luck. I was researching the smuggling of migrants when I accidentally met a few retired cigarette smugglers.’
According to the ESC, ‘The award recognises an outstanding peer-reviewed article by a European criminologist who was aged 35 or younger when the article was published.’ Georgios added, 'Being recognised by more experienced colleagues and people I admire is an honour.’
