Microsoft’s Lee Brown gives Teesside students valuable careers advice

12 April 2013

Lee Brown, operations manager at Soho Productions (a Microsoft studio dealing with television projects), recently spent a morning with MA Concept Art for Games and Animation students, reviewing and feeding back on their work.

In the afternoon he gave a lecture to third-year games and animation students on preparing interview portfolios and writing a great CV – with useful tips based on his experience of reviewing job applications. Having worked as an animator for many years, Lee knows what the animation and games industries want and expect from potential employees. Students also had an opportunity to speak with him directly.

Lee was very impressed with the University campus and facilities (and the quality of the curry at Akbars!) and hopes to be able to return for ExpoTees – an annual showcase of final-year students’ projects and an employer recruitment opportunity. He sees his recent visit as the beginning of a productive relationship with Teesside University.

Soho Productions currently has two Teesside University placement students working at the studio. The company is very pleased with their quality and output. It’s possible that future students may be given the chance to work on live Soho Productions projects as part of their in course assessments.
