Physiotherapy UK Conference 2014

27 October 2014

A group of six staff from the School of Health & Social Care’s physiotherapy teaching team and research institute attended the Physiotherapy UK Conference on 10-11 October.

John Dixon and Cormac Ryan attended as members of the Conference Management Committee and Physiotherapy Pain Association Committee respectively.

This two day event took place in Birmingham where over 1,100 physiotherapy staff from across the world were in attendance, details of which are available here.

There were over 200 speakers and poster presenters from the UK and worldwide.

Teesside University's presence was very much in evidence within the Conference Management Committee, poster presentations, the exhibition hall, and on the stage, promoting both pre and post registration education and research.

The conference covered the ethics and practicalities of managing the needs of an aging population. The intrinsic role that physiotherapy plays in this area of health care was the pervasive theme of the conference.

Denise Jones, Senior Lecturer said: ‘It was a good opportunity to listen to talented physiotherapists who are prepared to share their knowledge and research.'

John Dixon, Reader in Rehabilitation Science, added: ‘Overall this was an excellent conference that promoted the School and Teesside University extremely well. External impressions of our research and the North East were very good as always. I look forward to this event next year.’
