Students secure place on highly regarded graduate scheme

16 September 2015

Two Teesside University, School of Computing graduates have beat off international competition to secure places on the graduate trainee scheme of world renowned visual effects company, Double Negative (Dneg).

Katy Robertson and Emilis Baltrusaitis, both former Animation and Visual Arts students, started their three month traineeship at the start of July after being picked from an “overwhelming number of applicants”.

Their time at Dneg began with four weeks of intensive training in the fundamentals of 2D (roto, prep and compositing), 3D (lighting, rigging and modelling), along with training on Dneg’s own proprietary software.

Katy and Emilis are currently gaining invaluable hands-on show experience whilst being guided and mentored by the Dneg team.

Katy, who is specialising her training as a Rigger, said: “I’m loving every minute of my time here at Dneg! Everyone has been really kind and welcoming and I have already learnt so much. Being able to sit with people who are experts in the subject you are specialising in and being able to rig for an actual film is extremely exciting!”

Alison Brown, Assistant Dean of Teesside University, School of Computing, said: “We are thrilled to hear that Katy and Emilis have both gone on to secure work at such a well-respected organisation in the field of visual effects. Their place on the graduate scheme is a testament to their hard work whilst here at our School of Computing, and I wish them good luck for the future”.

The Dneg Graduate Training Scheme is in association with Creative Skillset's Trainee Finder Scheme.
