Jodie Veale, a second-year graphic design student at Teesside University, created the logos after her lecturer Michael O’Malley asked his students to take part in the project.

Teesside University has sponsored the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League for ten years and this year, as part of the partnership, the University agreed to help in the search for new logos for the T20 and F15 competitions.

Although Jodie admits she is not an expert on cricket, the project appealed to her as she relished the chance to get real experience of working with clients while studying.

'I started by researching cricket club logos to get a better feel and understanding of what they needed,' Jodie explained.

'I noticed that many logos I came across were quite dated and very similar to each other, so I wanted to make something that would really make T20 and F15 stand out.'

Jodie incorporated her own minimalistic, clean style into the designs and worked directly with the clients to create the perfect logos for their needs.

The designs were unveiled at the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League pre-season meeting of clubs, hosted at the University’s Middlesbrough campus, where Jodie was presented with a cash prize by Chris West, President of the League.

Jodie said: 'The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League were very open to new and contemporary designs, giving constructive criticism which helped to further the design.

When the right opportunity comes along we are always keen to get our students involved, as the experience can be invaluable.

Michael O'Malley, Senior Lecturer

'I’m very thankful that my logos were selected and I’ll be sure to feature them in my portfolio as this was an excellent opportunity.

'It gave me an incredible first experience of working with clients – I met some wonderful people and even possible future clients.'

Chris West, President, said: 'Jodie was professional throughout and took all of our feedback on board. We are delighted with the final result and thank our partners Teesside University for helping to facilitate this project.'

This successful project is just one example of the real-world professional experiences design students can access while studying at Teesside University. Michael O’Malley, Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, is delighted that the partnership has been able to provide this opportunity for Jodie.

Michael said: 'We were really pleased to be part of supporting the great partnership between the University and North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League.

'When the right opportunity comes along we are always keen to get our students involved, as the experience can be invaluable.

'From the very first meeting Jodie clearly understood the client’s requirements and she managed the whole process extremely professionally.'
