Teesside University Business School helps hundreds of students revise for exams

12 April 2019

Over four hundred further education students attended revision sessions held at Teesside University to help prepare them for their summer exams.

The sessions were organised by Teesside University Business School to help students who are studying A-Level and BTEC qualifications in business.

The school welcomed Year 12 and 13 students from 17 different further education institutions from across the region, including Teesside, South Tyneside and Wearside.

The day also offered students a chance to take a look around campus, and get a feel for what university life is like.

Dr David Norris, Associate Dean of Teesside University's Business School said: 'We’ve got revision sessions designed to give the students that we’re working with a real impetus for going into their exam period in the next few months.

'As part of Teesside University's Business School's mission, we're really focused on developing and making relationships with our network of colleges and further education providers, part of that is really showcasing what university life is all about.'

Tracey Hall, Course Tutor of Economics & Business at Hartlepool Sixth Form said: 'Some of the students have never been to a university before at all.

'They have experienced what a university campus is like and what kind of facilities the university has.'

The sessions were organised in conjunction with tutor2u, a specialist deliverer of A-Level and BTEC based revision sessions, who work nationally to support students and teachers to help maximise student performance in exams.

Jim Riley, CEO and Co-Founder of tutor2u said: 'Year 12 and 13 students are here, and they’re in the final stages of their exam preparations.

'They have been studying for the best part of two years for these exams, and now they’re at the time when it really counts.

'What we find is that students get a lot out of the day, it’s enjoyable and it gives them a boost to their revision.'

The event was seen as a huge success, with hundreds of students attending revision sessions throughout the day. Peter McGinn, Subject Leader and Teacher at Harton Academy said: 'The students have definitely enjoyed today, I think they have enjoyed being in a relaxed atmosphere.

'Working with Teesside University has been really easy, they have been absolutely outstanding.'
