Kirath, Senior Lecturer in Textile Design in the University’s MIMA School of Art & Design, runs her own award-winning surface pattern design brand.

She exhibited at major interiors trade show Decorex in Olympia, London, from October 6 to 9 and in the past month her work has featured in publications such as The Times, London Evening Standard, Elle Decoration and Living North.

Kirath is currently working with textile designer and Teesside University BA (Hons) Textile Design graduate Ellen McDougall, who is completing a placement with Kirath's business.

One of Kirath’s wallpapers, a geometric monochrome design, currently features in the main reception area of the Stephenson Building, in the University’s School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies.

Kirath said: 'Having my own business means I can remain current and bring professional experience to my work with students, which helps to inform my teaching.

'I had always wanted continue practising while lecturing, as it is extremely useful for the students to be connected with the workplace.'

She added: My students go on to have varied careers, which has included print designs for interiors, fashion and gifts, styling, trend researchers or postgraduate study and teaching. Students can also go on to set up their own businesses, as we encourage enterprise.”

Kirath licenses her designs to companies worldwide and since launching her first collection in 2011, she has worked with clients worldwide, including Mexico, Italy, France and America. Her bespoke wallpaper designs have featured in the UK and international design press and publications.
