Why Teesside?

I chose to continue studying at Teesside because the support offered whilst doing my undergraduate degree during the Covid-19 lockdown was second to none. My tutors were understanding of the new challenges presented and were able to quickly adapt to the situation to ensure the quality of teaching and learning was still there. This provided me with the confidence to stay at Teesside.

Why digital marketing?

Digital marketing is still a relatively new and very exciting subject. We are all exposed to digital marketing and even more so now because of Covid-19. It is the only form of communication and interaction many businesses have been able to have with customers.

Best thing about your course?

How we are encouraged to be creative and use Adobe software tools within our assignments.

My favourite module is Digital Analytics, Optimisation and Metrics because it’s taught me about the analysis of digital marketing, and I have enjoyed learning about the different metrics and applying my ideas to a case study.

What do you think about the campus?

The campus is great, Teesside University Business School (TUBS) is amazing, and the rest of the campus has recently been updated.

There is always a great vibe and plenty to do. The Library staff are always on hand to offer support and answer any questions.

What do you think about Middlesbrough?

It is an interesting place with a lot to see and do - there is always events happening.

Any extra-curricular activities?

I am a student ambassador for TUBS. This means I’m on hand during open days to provide tours and give advice as a current student to help prospective students and parents to understand university life. I also help when we hold revision sessions for local schools and colleges.

Worked on any projects or been on a placement?

I have been on several placements developing web portals to help management and employees. I have also handled the enquiry process.

I helped developed the Academic Mentor Programme which is a new support scheme for first-year students to help create a seamless transition into university.

Currently, I am working with the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) for my final project, and we are focusing on how we can use digital marketing tools to help promote the TVCA and attract more businesses to the area.

What skills have you gained?

I feel that I am now much more confident to be creative and further express my ideas through designs. What I have learned such as gathering and analysing customer research, considering the semiotics of advertising, and thinking about all the customer touchpoints will help me in my future career.

What are your future ambitions?

I want to become a digital marketing consultant and help clients improve their digital marketing plans.

Would you recommend Teesside University and your course?

Yes. You are provided with the right amount of academic challenge and support you need to succeed, and even in the online learning environment, we have still been able to do activities and group work.

What advice would you give?

To make the most of it and engage. Times are different and will be for a while, however, everybody still wants you to succeed!
