Course overview

As an event manager you can expect to organise events ranging from a small business conference to masterminding a major music festival.

You learn the principles and theoretical frameworks related to events management and how to apply this theory in practice. You cover logistics and operations management, risk management, strategy, finance, digital marketing, project management, marketing communications, sustainability, economic and social impacts of events.To give you practical experience of events management, you plan and deliver a series of varied events. This course equips you with a strong applied grounding in event management that challenges you to develop, promote, operationalise and evaluate a range of events at each year of your studies. You develop knowledge from a theoretical perspective, but also immerse yourself in event management activity, working with a diverse range of businesses and organisations. Course details

Year 1 focuses on providing you with the necessary underpinning in terms of broad events management knowledge and skills. It introduces key business and management concepts.

Year 2 lets you explore your own interests and deepening your insights as well as having more responsibility for your own learning.

The final year explores more advanced topics within events management and you develop your awareness of your own responsibility as a future leader of events management. Finally, you have the opportunity to put your knowledge into action by undertaking a self-managed independent project through the Dissertation module.

How you learn

Teaching and learning is through a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and practice-based projects. You also hear from guest speakers and business practitioners and we support and facilitate you to engage with as many businesses as possible to gain an insight into a range of business disciplines and learn about the role of events across a range of industries and contexts.

How you are assessed

You are assessed through a combination of individual and/or group written assignments, practical assessments, presentations and projects. The focus on employability and practical application means that you are often assessed through live project activity, where you are challenged to take the taught understanding from a module and apply that knowledge with a live business and events management setting; working in collaboration with real organisations.

Entry requirements

A typical offer is 80-104 tariff points from at least two A levels (or equivalent).

We welcome applications from mature students without conventional entry requirements. We take into account any alternative qualifications or other experience you may have.
