Animex Special Forum - Call for Contributions

Impact of AI on the Animation, Games and VFX Industry

As organisations across the animation, games and VFX industries define their positions on AI, this forum invites academics, industry professionals and students to explore its impact on creative practice, production and the industry's future.

Through talks, panel discussions and interactive sessions, the forum will encourage debate, explore key challenges and consider future directions for AI in the creative industries. The final programme and format will be shaped by the submissions received. This is an in-person event and may contribute to future outputs, including an edited collection.

We welcome contributions that explore the impact of AI on animation, games and VFX, including micro talks, short presentations, provocations, case studies and facilitated discussions.

Topics may include

  • bias and embedded ideologies in AI systems
  • the changing role of the artist and the potential for displacement
  • labour, precarity, and the economics of AI-driven production
  • the integration of AI into creative workflows and production tools
  • ethics, ownership, and intellectual property in AI-generated work
  • implications for learning, pedagogy, employability and skills development
  • aesthetics, authorship and creativity in machine-assisted practice.

Contributions are welcomed from students, industry professionals and researchers exploring the impact of AI across the creative sectors.
