International Management (with Advanced Practice) (London)

International Management (with Advanced Practice) MSc

Build your knowledge and experience of international business and strategic management for your future career as a successful business leader.

  • Note: Applications for this course are from November 2024 onwards.

Course overview

You focus on the international aspects of business, developing contemporary knowledge and insights into the global marketplace – such as international business practices, leading in a cross-cultural environment and developing global operations.

You enhance your career in our internationally connected, industry-facing London campus. Explore the challenges facing global businesses including sustainability, technological disruption and strategic change management. Develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to develop an entrepreneurial attitude and drive innovation, so that your business takes a leading role in providing solutions to challenges in society.

This extended, full-time (including Advanced Practice) programme enhances the qualification by adding a vocational or research-based internship to the 1-year programme. This is a great way to gain work experience and give your CV a competitive edge. A research internship provides the opportunity to develop analytical, team-working, research and academic skills by working alongside a research team in an academic setting. We guarantee a research internship, but cannot guarantee a vocational internship. We provide practical support and advice on how to find and secure vocational internship positions.

Core modules

Advanced Practice

Advanced Practice is normally undertaken over a one semester period and has been developed to enable a student to gain real-world practical experience to enhance their employability and academic learning. Students will receive preparatory sessions to enable them to apply to internship opportunities, which normally include:

Vocational internships with external organisations based offsite
Research or development internships based on campus
Employer-led internships based on campus
Students will undertake an appropriate advanced practice opportunity to meet their skill set and aspirations, related to their course.

All students will be assigned an academic supervisor to provide academic and pastoral support throughout their internship. Students will be assessed through a reflective report on a pass/fail basis. This module does not count towards the overall classification of the degree.

Emerging Issues in Business and Society

We live in a rapidly changing world, presenting so many opportunities and challenges for business and society. Draw on thought leadership from a mix of disciplines such as business, marketing, social sciences and the humanities.
This module takes inspiration from the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a basis for topical content. Given the dynamic nature of the global business environment, you also study what’s happening in the world right now. We want you to take a critical approach to your research within a wider theoretical and contextual base.

Final Project

Understand the relationship between the University or your workplace and your own practice in a collaborative process of generating and using knowledge. Bring together key elements of learning to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of practice in a work-based project. The composition, content and context of your project is unique to you. It’s a great opportunity to reflect on your practice to show continual learning and development. And remember, you are taught content to help you successfully manage and complete your project.

People and Culture

Get an insight into how organisations can tap into the knowledge of their increasingly skilled workforce. And understand the impact of cultural differences on individuals and organisations.

Responsible Leadership

Reflect critically and creatively to support your own leadership development. Examine ideas of responsibility, accountability and sustainability and take a proactive approach to developing your own leadership competencies, behaviours and attributes. In a dynamic business landscape, you need to take a creative, developmental and compassionate approach as a leader, to make sure your organisation is sustainable, innovative and agile.

The Global Strategist

As the global business environment becomes more complex and volatile, organisations of all shapes and sizes must think and act more entrepreneurially, innovatively and creatively, to change and adapt.

Explore strategic theories, tools and concepts relating to the external environment’s impact on strategic challenges and choices. Apply a variety of academic and practical material to your own organisation, or a live case organisation – this will help you appreciate the importance of developing and implementing strategic plans for the success of your organisation, its key stakeholders and society
