Tell us why you decided to go to university and why you chose Teesside University London?

I chose Teesside University for my studies because of its fantastic location in Here East, London. Being in the heart of the city gave me access to a world of opportunities, from business and culture to innovation and more. Plus, the university offered a course that perfectly matched my interests and career goals.

A friend who'd studied there also raved about the university's teaching style, which really appealed to me. They told me about the emphasis on practical, real-life learning, which was exactly what I was looking for. With its strong industry connections, top-notch facilities, and diverse community, I knew Teesside University was the perfect fit for me.

Why did you choose your course?

I deliberately selected the International Management course at Teesside University due to its comprehensive and diverse module structure. The course's approach aligns perfectly with my accounting background, providing a rich learning experience that exposes me to interconnected topics such as strategic management and human resources management.

Furthermore, my career aspiration is to transition into a business advisory role, where I can leverage my accounting expertise to drive business growth and improvement. The course's emphasis on global business practices, cultural intelligence and strategic thinking further solidifies its relevance to my aspirations.

What do you like most about your course and why? Are there any modules you really enjoy?

The course has been a transformative experience that has broadened my perspective as a global strategist. I particularly appreciated the exposure to real-world applications of theoretical models, enabling me to analyse global trends and their impact on businesses.

The dissertation project was a highlight of the course, significantly enhancing my knowledge and skills in research and academic writing. I am grateful for the expert guidance and coaching provided by my supervisor, Mr. Shamim, which helped me produce a high-quality dissertation.

What do you think about the campus?

I have been impressed by the Teesside University London campus, which offers a unique and serene learning environment. The campus's centralised location provides excellent accessibility and mobility options.

One of the standout features of the campus is its compact size, which fosters a sense of community and facilitates strong relationships between lecturers and students. This personalised approach to learning creates a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

How have your tutors supported you?

My lecturers at Teesside University demonstrated exceptional dedication and support throughout my academic journey. Despite their demanding schedules, they consistently provided supplementary materials that greatly enhanced my understanding of complex concepts.

Notably, my dissertation supervisor, Mr. Ahmed, went above and beyond by sharing invaluable resources and guidance on each stage of the project.

What do you think about Here East and the surrounding area?

One of the key advantages of this location is its proximity to Stratford. Here East's location near Stratford allows for easy access to various parts of the city, making it an ideal base for exploring London. Whether I needed to commute to other parts of the city or simply wanted to explore the local area, I found it easy to get around.
I was impressed by the tranquil atmosphere on campus, which allowed me to concentrate on my studies without distractions.

Do you have a job or do any volunteering during your studies?

Initially, I volunteered as a Youth Administrator at the Women and Families Resource Centre, where I later progressed to the position of Youth Coordinator. This experience deepened my understanding of community development and youth empowerment.

In addition to my volunteer work, I secured a part-time position as a Youth Enrichment Worker with NPSS, four months into my studies. This role has enabled me to develop my skills in youth development and support.

As a certified accountant with ACCA, I recognised the importance of garnering UK experience to complement my qualifications. To achieve this, I enrolled with Future Connect, undertaking a traineeship that focusses on accounting and finance. This opportunity is equipping me with the knowledge and expertise necessary to excel in this field and enhance my professional profile.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My long-term ambition is to mobilise additional financial resources and support to drive meaningful impact in the lives of marginalised communities, with a particular focus on empowering the younger generation. I want to create sustainable opportunities that foster social change, education, and economic growth, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and prosperous society.
